Resident Reportedly Threatened N. Miami City Staffers Over Bill
NORTH MIAMI (CBSMiami/The Miami Herald) – City hall in North Miami is on alert and police are investigating claims a possible resident upset over his city utility bill threatened staffers.
CBS4 news partner, The Miami Herald, reports the city's administration has stepped up security measures at the 776 NE 125th Street complex.
"You are going to have a war on your hands, and they are going to storm the building," the paper reported that the caller told North Miami information technology director Ricardo Castillo, according to a police report.
North Miami has reportedly stationed a police officer in the city hall lobby and the north entrance to the building has been locked.
The south entrance is the only entrance and exit left open.
According to the paper and the police report, the resident "insisted he was being billed twice on his city water bill."
North Miami has had difficulties with sending out timely bills to utility customers because of a glitch in its billing system.
Many customers received two quarterly bills, or six months' worth, of utility fees back-to-back in July and August, the paper reported.
So far, it hasn't been determined if the glitch is what the caller was complaining about.
