Reports: Tebow To Sign With Patriots
BOSTON (CBSMiami) – Former Florida Gators star quarterback Tim Tebow is taking his talents to Foxboro, Massachusetts. According to ESPN's Ed Werder, Tebow will sign with the New England Patriots and be in attendance at minicamp on Tuesday.
The Patriots have the ability to make a move like signing Tebow because there will be absolutely zero quarterback controversy as long as Tom Brady is taking snaps from center. Tebow can settle into a third-string quarterback job and also be utilized elsewhere on the field.
Tebow's role could include the tight end position that he's fought playing since he was made a first-round draft pick by the Denver Broncos. According to CBSSports' Mike Freeman, Tebow will "study a great deal at tight end."
Tebow has often been viewed a classic H-back/tight end by many NFL observers.
Signing Tebow makes sense from the point of view that New England's offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, drafted Tebow out of the University of Florida just a few seasons ago. Tebow helped lead the Broncos to the playoffs just after McDaniels was fired.
In addition, it continues Belichick's affinity for taking players from the University of Florida. The Patriots have drafted and/or signed multiple players out of UF over the past few years including middle linebacker Brandon Spikes and tight end Aaron Hernandez.
