Reports: Marlins Offer C.J. Wilson 6-Year Contract
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The Miami Marlins have a desperate need for pitching and they may address it with the hottest name on the free agent market.
According to Tom Verducci of the Major League Baseball Network, the Marlins have now extended a 6-year contract to starting pitcher C.J. Wilson, last of the Texas Rangers.
Wilson is 31-years-old, but is coming off the two best seasons of his career and his first two as a starting pitcher.
According to multiple reports, Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria has been pushing to sign Wilson to help the Marlins rotation.
In the last two seasons, Wilson has started 33.5 games per season and has won 31 games and lost 15. His ERA over the last two seasons has hovered around 3.15 and he has a career strikeout to walk ratio of approximately two-to-one.
Wilson was a relief pitcher from the start of his career in 2005 through 2010. He saved a total of 52 games from 05-10. Wilson has only pitched more than 70 innings twice in his career in 2010 and 2011.
The Marlins main competition for Wilson appears to be his old team, the Texas Rangers and his hometown team, the Los Angeles Angels.
