Report: Zimmerman And Attorney Sued By Private Investigator
ORLANDO (CBSMiami) – An Orlando-area private detective company, Associated Investigative Services Inc, has filed suit against George Zimmerman and his attorney Mark O'Mara claiming they are owed $27,000 for security services, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
According to the Sentinel, the company billed Zimmerman and O'Mara $66,000 for 21 days of protection. The billing came even though Zimmerman was in jail for seven the days listed.
For his part, O'Mara told the Sentinel that he paid the company $40,000 and that the charges appeared to be exorbitant and the never signed a contract. The private detective company responded saying O'Mara agreed to a verbal contract, according to the Sentinel.
Zimmerman stands accused of murder for the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin earlier this year. Zimmerman said he was acting in self-defense under the "stand your ground law" and pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.
The shooting death set off a firestorm of criticism of the Florida "stand your ground" law and sparked racial tensions across the country. Zimmerman is currently at a secret location in Seminole County while free on $1 million bail, according to the Sentinel.
The private detective suit also detailed at least one plan to move Zimmerman out of jail and help him disappear. According to the Sentinel, the plan entailed outfitting Zimmerman in body armor and driven from the jail by an armed guard to a tourist report.
Once at the resort, Zimmerman would go into a bathroom and change into a new shirt, hat, and glasses before moving on, the Sentinel reported.
Zimmerman is set to face his charges sometime in early 2013.
