Report: Winston Decision Coming After ACC Champ. Game & Heisman Vote
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) – The decision on whether or not to charge Florida State Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston with sexual assault is likely to come after both the ACC Championship Game and the closing of voting on the Heisman Trophy, according to CBSSports.com.
The State Attorney's Office for the 2nd Judicial Circuit told CBSSports.com that the decision will likely come in roughly two weeks. CBSSports.com reported the SAO's office is still waiting on evidence in the case that hasn't been delivered yet.
If the CBSSports.com timeline holds true, Winston will be able to play for Florida State in the ACC Championship Game and the vote on the Heisman Trophy will have been made before a decision on charges is announced.
Winston has long been considered the Heisman Trophy front-runner this season, despite not playing in the second-half of many games because FSU was blowing the opponent out.
The sexual assault allegation dates back nearly one year and was off-the-radar until picked up by the media a few weeks ago. The victim alleged Winston sexually assaulted her last December. Winston's attorney has previously said the sex was consensual.
Previous reports have said Winston's DNA was found on the underwear of the victim. Winston is not expected to speak with the state attorney's office before a decision on charges is made.
