Report: Stanton May Miss All-Star Game
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Marlins have but one representative in the 2012 All-Star game and that fact is even on shaky ground right now.
According to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald, Giancarlo Stanton may not participate in the All-Star game or the Home Run Derby due to a sore right knee.
The Herald reported Stanton is awaiting results of an MRI taken Tuesday to assess the situation. Stanton said he'll miss the rest of the Brewers series and if he can't play against St. Louis this weekend, he may not be at All-Star weekend.
According to the Herald, Stanton may have injured his knee in the eighth inning of Monday's game against Milwaukee while in right field and "flexing his legs and arms in preparation for a possible throw to the plate."
If Stanton can't go and misses the All-Star Game festivities, including the Home Run Derby, it will be the nation's loss.
Stanton is known for his towering shots in batting practice that often bring the operations at a stadium to a halt. For the season, Stanton is hitting .283 with 19 home runs, 50 RBI's, a slugging percentage of .555 and an OPS of .881.
