Report: Reggie Bush Return To Miami "Highly Unlikely"
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Running back Reggie Bush enjoyed a career renaissance in Miami over the last two seasons running for more than 900 yards in each season. But Bush may have run his last play for the Miami Dolphins.
According to CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason LaCanfora, it's "highly unlikely" that Bush will stay in Miami. Bush has said in the past he'd like to stay with the Dolphins, but the Fins may not keep Bush around depending on how much he asks for in a new contract.
Bush played extremely well when the Dolphins ran a pure power running game in 2011, but disappeared at times in 2012 when the Dolphins switched to a zone-blocking running game. Bush's yards per carry dropped almost a full yard between 2011 and 2012.
That said, Bush was the Dolphins only explosive offensive weapon over the past two seasons. He was the fastest starting player on offense and one of the only players who could break open a game any time he touched the ball.
Unfortunately for Bush, he plays a position that is very expendable in the National Football League. From Terrell Davis in the 1990's to Arian Foster the last few years and Alfred Morris last year, the NFL has star running backs coming from deep in the draft every season.
Plus, with the rookie salary scale, paying a young player the smaller salary may make more sense than carrying Bush on the roster at a higher pay.
Bush will likely command a good contract in free agency as the healthiest, youngest, and most productive running back available.
In the draft, several solid running backs will be available including: Eddie Lacy, Giovani Bernard, Montee Ball, Andre Ellington, Marcus Lattimore, Stepfan Taylor and Kenjon Barner. The Dolphins have one first round pick, plus two picks in the second and third round of the 2013 NFL Draft
