Ray Allen Opts-In For 2013-14 Season With Heat
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Heat knew the Big Three of LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade would be back next year. Friday, the Heat's marksman decided he was going to return for another season in South Florida.
The team announced Friday that guard Ray Allen has decided to opt-in to the final year of his contract with Miami. Allen will make $3.2 million as the Heat make a push for a third-straight NBA Championship.
Allen was acquired before the 2012-2013 season using the team's taxpayer's mid-level exception. The signing was heralded at the time and paid off all season long with Allen providing his normal excellent three-point shooting throughout the season.
The NBA's all-time leader in three-point shooting endeared himself to Miami Heat fans forever at the end of Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals. With the clock winding down and the Heat down by three-points, Allen caught a pass from Bosh after an offensive rebound.
Allen stepped back behind the three-point line and drilled a three-point shot from the corner to tie the game with just 5.2 seconds left. The Heat survived Game 6 and went on to when Game 7 and a second-consecutive NBA title.
