Report: Polanco To Sign With Marlins
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Marlins have reached a deal with free agent third baseman Placido Polanco, according to the Associated Press.
The Marlins haven't officially announced a deal as of early Thursday afternoon, but a report Wednesday confirmed the Marlins were looking at the 37-year-old Polanco along with other aging veteran third basemen.
Polanco dealt with injuries this year and managed to hit just .257 with two home runs and 19 RBI's in 90 games. Throughout his 15-year-career, Polanco has hit .299 with 103 homers.
The signing of Polanco, which is expected to be for one year, will round out the Marlins lineup after the massive salary and talent purge in the offseason.
The Marlins lineup is expected to look like this: Polanco at third base, Logan Morrison at first base, Donovan Solano at second, Adeiny Hechavarria at shortstop, Jeff Brantly at catcher, Giancarlo Stanton in right field, Justin Ruggiano in center field and Juan Pierre in left field.
Outside of Stanton, there's not likely an All-Star candidate on the field for the Marlins. That's leading many baseball pundits to believe the Marlins will be one of, if not the, worst team in baseball in 2013. If the Marlins struggle again, expect to see a lot of empty seats at Marlins Park for a second straight year.
