Report: NFL Draft Prospect Bombs Wonderlic Test
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Each NFL draft season, there's always a lot of misinformation that comes out about players to keep teams from knowing who they might be interested in picking.
But, there's also a chance some of the information could be detrimental for a player, and that may be the case for a potential top five pick.
According to profootballtalk.com, LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne scored a four on the annual Wonderlic test given to incoming players. The test measures overall knowledge and has been used and tweaked for years to get the best measure possible.
A few years ago, Vince Young scored a six the first time he took the test. It didn't stop the Tennessee Titans from drafting him third overall. But given how Young's career turned out, perhaps teams should have given more credence to the test score. Young later scored a 13 on a re-test.
But Claiborne's score of four out of a possible 50 puts a stain on him coming into the league and also makes his college team, LSU, look horrible. Claiborne was a junior at LSU, which if the score is accurate, begs the question of how he stayed in school as a Tiger?
Regardless of the score, Claiborne is easily a top 10 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and could be picked in the top five. He's ranked the best cornerback prospect in the draft and runs between 4.39 and 4.50 in the 40-yard-dash. Claiborne won the Jim Thorpe Award in 2011 given to the nation's best defensive back.
