Report: NFL Considering Ending Pro Bowl
NEW YORK (CBSMiami) – It was just a few years ago that South Florida was the center of the pro football world with both the NFL Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl being held at Sun Life Stadium. But one of those games may not be around much longer.
According to an ESPN report, the NFL is looking to suspend playing the Pro Bowl this season and for the foreseeable future. The 2013 Pro Bowl is currently set to be held on February 3, but no location was set because of the uncertain status of the game.
The NFL has been trying to determine a successful format for the Pro Bowl after the game descended into disrepair in recent years. Most NFL stars completely avoid the game altogether to nurse injuries from either the regular or post-season.
But, the players won't be losing any money. Typically, contracts had bonuses that were given for making the Pro Bowl. The NFL is expected to have a Pro Bowl balloting process to identify the top players each year and would force teams to negotiate Pro Bowl clauses into new contracts and honor current Pro Bowl clauses, according to ESPN.
