Report: NCAA Preparing Serious Allegations Against Ex-UM Coaches
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A new CBSSports.com report said the NCAA is about to make major allegations against former UM assistant coach Clint Hurtt for his role in the Nevin Shapiro scandal that broke in August 2011.
According to Bruce Feldman of CBSSports.com, Hurtt, who is currently the defensive line/assistant head coach/recruiting coordinator for Louisville, is about to have the book thrown at him by the NCAA.
"They are pretty much throwing everything at him," the source told CBSSports.com of Hurtt. "They have him on essentially everything that was brought to the attention of the NCAA, some of which has been publicly known because of (Shapiro) but there are some other things that did not involve Shapiro that they're charging him with."
The report said athletes told the NCAA about alleged violations committed by Hurtt and another former UM assistant, Aubrey Hill. Specifically, the source told CBSSports.com that the coaches will be charged with a violation of Bylaw 10.1.
According to Feldman, the NCAA will allege against both Hill and Hurtt charges of impermissible transportation, impermissible lodging and impermissible benefits.
If the CBSSports.com report proves correct for Hurtt, Hill, and former men's basketball coach Frank Haith, then the school could be in major trouble and risk the dreaded charge of lack of institutional control for the Shapiro scandal.
But, the case is still developing and even if the coaches are made aware of the allegations this week, they are only allegations. The coaches/school would have 90 days to respond in writing before having a hearing in front of the NCAA's Committee on Infractions.
After that, a final decision typically takes anywhere from 4-6 months after the hearing.
