Report: MLB Planning Suspensions For A-Rod & Others
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Major League Baseball is preparing to suspend multiple players including Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Braun for their alleged usage of performance enhancing drugs from the Coral Gables-based Biogenesis anti-aging clinic, according to ESPN's "Outside the Lines."
As many as 20 players may be suspended, with Braun and A-Rod being the most high profile players to face penalties. According to OTL, the suspensions are expected sometime after next week's Major League Baseball All-Star Break.
The owner and operator of the Biogenesis clinic, Anthony Bosch, has allegedly been meeting with Major League Baseball investigators and has turned over countless documents to back up his claims of working with the players named in company documents, according to ESPN.com.
The entire investigation started after the Miami New Times acquired documents from Biogenesis showing that players like Braun, A-Rod, and dozens of other players were allegedly using performance-enhancing drugs.
The biggest question Major League Baseball will have to answer is how long the suspensions will last? According to OTL, MLB officials are considering 100-game suspensions for both Braun and Rodriguez, even though neither has been suspended in the past for PED's.
According to ESPN, MLB officials would argue that Braun and Rodriguez committed multiple offenses by receiving PED's from Biogenesis and lying to investigators about it.
