Report: Miami To Announce Indoor Practice Facility Plans Soon
CBS Miami: According to a report by The Palm Beach Post, the University of Miami is set to release plans for its indoor practice facility in less than two weeks.
The Post's report claimed that the school will announce the plans on September 23rd – Miami's bye week. The facility, which would like likely break ground on the same area that the current Greentree practice fields occupies, would open for the 2018 season.
Head coach Mark Richt made it a personal mission of his as soon as he was hired by his alma mater to get an indoor practice facility built for the football program. Miami remains the only "Power 5" conference school (ACC, SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-12) without an indoor practice facility.
Richt even pledged a substantial amount of his own money towards the project – showing the school the urgency of the need and motivating other donors to kick in funds to jumpstart the process.
Miami recently cracked the Associated Press Top 25 poll, earning the No. 25 spot prior to the team's 38-10 win over Florida Atlantic University. The Canes, who could rise as high as the late-teens or high twenties in the upcoming poll, will hit the road for the first time this season – traveling to Appalachian State for a September 17th game.
