Report: Massive Privately Financed Convention Center Planned In Miami
MIAMI (CBSMiami/Herald) – It's not quite the proposed downtown casino, but Miami's downtown skyline may get a totally new look soon.
According to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald, the MDM Group has a contract to buy the old Miami Arena site so that it can build a privately-financed convention center that will be topped by an 1,800 room hotel.
According to the video released by MDM, the Marriott hotel would be on top of the 500,000 square-foot convention center and the facility would also hold a 1,500 square foot theater and a 2,300 car garage that will be partially underground, according to the Herald.
The Herald reported no official plan has been submitted yet, but the developers said they wanted to move forward quickly and the project could cost upwards of $1 billion.
According to the Herald, the plan will link to a train station that will be part of the All Aboard Florida rail service that will eventually connect Miami to Orlando.
