Report: Marshall Fought In New York
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – When the Miami Dolphins traded star wide receiver Brandon Marshall to the Chicago Bears, most pundits and fans were left stunned. But, a report from the New York Post may explain why the Fins decided to give up on the 28-year-old receiver.
According to the Post, Marshall and his wife were at a Manhattan nightclub Sunday when he allegedly got into a fist fight with a group of friends celebrating a birthday. Marshall allegedly hit Christin Myles, 24, in the left eye, though the Post said it wasn't clear if he was aiming at the woman or someone else.
Marshall said that his wife was hit in the face by a thrown bottle before he hit anyone. Marshall's attorney said in a statement to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald that Marshall's wife suffered "serious injury."
Marshall has a history of problems with the law including arrests for disorderly conduct, drunk driving, and domestic violence, including an incident last year when he was stabbed in the abdomen allegedly by his wife, Michi Nogami-Marshall.
The Bears reportedly were aware of the incident when they decided to move forward with the trade for the mercurial receiver.
Marshall was acquired just over two years ago in exchange for two second-round draft picks. He was supposed to be the Fins' best offensive weapon, but had trouble with drops and could never get in the end zone consistently during his time with the Fins.
The Bears will reunite Marshall with his former Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, who Marshall had his best seasons with.
According to multiple reports, the Marshall trade was in the works before the Peyton Manning pursuit began. Speaking of Manning, the former Colts quarterback reportedly saw Marshall as an asset for the Dolphins.
The likelihood of Miami landing Manning continue to decline as each hour passes. If the Fins lose out on the Manning sweepstakes, the team may look towards either the NFL Draft, or free agent quarterback Matt Flynn.
