Report: Marlins Offer Contracts To Pujols, Reyes

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – It appears the Miami Marlins are serious about trying to rebuild the beleaguered franchise.

According to FoxSports' Ken Rosenthal, multiple sources have told him the team has made substantial offers to both free agent infielder Jose Reyes and superstar Albert Pujols.

The exact amount of the offers is unknown, but if the Marlins were to sign both of the superstars; the team would immediately become a contender in the National League.

Reyes visited the team earlier this week and received a tour of the Marlins' brand new ballpark. Pujols, a multiple time National League Most Valuable Player is considered the crown jewel of the current free agent crop.

The Marlins, a notoriously cheap franchise, would have to pony up close to $20-30 million a season for each player.

The only problem for the team will be if none of these players sign with the franchise. At that point, fans and the media will believe that it was all for show and to get the team's name in the headlines.

But if they pull off signing both of these players, plus a starting pitcher, the team could challenge the Miami Heat for having the Big Three in South Florida.
