Report: Marlins Listening To Offers For Stanton
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Stop us if you've heard this one before: the Miami Marlins have a superstar in the making on the roster, swear they're not going to trade him, and then word gets out the team is listening to offers for said player.
That's exactly what's happening with superstar slugger Giancarlo Stanton, the Marlins only remaining star on the roster. Stanton made no secret he was not happy with the teams' complete demolition of the roster in the offseason.
Sunday morning, Marlins assistant general manager Dan Jennings told Jim Bowden the team will listen to any offers for Stanton, but don't plan on trading him right now, according to probaseballtalk.com. In other words, the Marlins will want the farm for Stanton and are waiting for some team to offer it.
Previously, the Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, and Chicago Cubs were believed to be interested in the slugger.
Stanton will become arbitration eligible in 2014 and will likely be getting a massive raise from someone. He made just $480,000 in 2012 and is only 22 years old.
