Report: Marlins Interested In Carlos Beltran
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The hot stove league in Major League Baseball is still just warming up but the Miami Marlins continue to be linked to big-name prospects.
Wednesday, the Marlins welcomed in Jose Reyes for a free-agent visit just a day after the team brought in veteran left-handed pitcher Mark Buehrle in to tour the new stadium and listen to their pitch to come here.
Now, a new report from Yahoo! Sports said that the Marlins have also expressed interest in veteran centerfielder Carlos Beltran. The free agent will be 35-years-old next season and is a career .283 hitter.
But, the big test will be if notoriously tight-fisted owner Jeffrey Loria will FINALLY open up the checkbook and sign quality big-name talent for the team.
If the Marlins continue to be linked to the top talent in free agency and don't end up signing any of them, it's going to be ugly for the team.
Fans may revolt and see all of the free agency talk as simply drumming up publicity for the team without putting any substance behind it.
