Report: Larkin Turning Pro
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – It looks like University of Miami Hurricanes head basketball coach Jim Larranaga will be looking for a new point guard in the not too distant future.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, Miami Hurricanes sophomore Shane Larkin will turn pro during a planned announcement on Sunday. The Yahoo! Sports report came after ESPN reported Barry Larkin, Shane's father, said his son told him he was turning pro.
Yahoo! Sports had earlier reported Shane Larkin "has several agent meetings set for New York next week, sources tell Yahoo!"
Larkin's stock will likely not be any higher than it is right now. He led the Canes to the Sweet 16 during UM's storybook season. Larkin was a second-team All-American, the ACC Player of the Year, an All ACC First Team selection, All ACC-Defensive Team, and the ACC Tournament MVP this season.
Larkin averaged 14.5 points and shot 47.9 percent from the field and 40.6 percent from behind the three-point line in 2012-2013.
Losing Larkin would leave the Hurricanes with a completely new starting five next season as the team will be in full rebuilding mode.
Larkin is the son of Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Barry Larkin.
