Report: Henne's Season Is Over
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The Miami Dolphins quarterback situation has gone from bad to worse Thursday.
According to the Associated Press, Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne is done for the season because he has decided to have shoulder surgery on his non-throwing arm.
Henne will be placed on injured reserve Thursday.
He suffered the injury in last Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers. He was injured in the first quarter of the game and was replaced by Matt Moore.
With Henne out, Moore will become the team's de facto starter heading into the team's next game against the New York Jets.
According to NFL.com's Jason LaCanfora, the Fins have signed former New York Giants quarterback Sage Rosenfels as a backup to Moore.
ESPN's John Clayton also said that, "It's going to be hard for the Dolphins to rebound from the loss of Chad Henne for the season. It restricts them to being a running offense."
Indeed, the pressure is now on Matt Moore who doesn't have a good history of producing results from the quarterback position.
Last season, Moore played with the Carolina Panthers and due in part to his play and the play of his backup; the Panthers ended up with the worst record in football.
That could turn out to be a blessing in disguise if Moore can do it again with the Dolphins.
If the Fins finish with the worst record in the NFL, they will be picking first in the NFL Draft and will run the pick of Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck to the podium.
Moore becomes the 16th quarterback to start for the Dolphins since Dan Marino retired following the 1999 season.
