Report: Heat Interested In David West
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The Miami Heat have a need for quality big men to help out the roster. But the team also has plenty of power forwards, but no quality center.
Wednesday, CBSSports.com's Ken Berger said that the New Orleands Hornets are willing to complete a sign-and-trade deal to allow West to play for a NBA championship contender.
One of the teams that Berger mentioned as a possibility for West is the Heat. Berger also listed possible destinations for West as Dallas, San Antonio, and the Atlanta Hawks.
The potential match with the Heat doesn't make real basketball sense. The Heat has a superstar power forward in Chris Bosh and a solid backup in Udonis Haslem.
Udonis can also play the center position near the end of a game for the Heat or move Bosh to center and plug Udonis in at power forward.
West has been a scoring superstar, but his potential role on the Heat is still unknown.
But, the Heat could be trying to acquire West to give them more ammunition to go after the Heat's big free agent target, Samuel Dalembert.
Then again, the Heat could be just trying to get enough bodies to fortify a front line that will take more pressure off the Big Three.
No moves can be made until Friday at 2 p.m.
