Report: Golden Shocked By Penn State Allegations

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – Penn State University's athletic program has been rocked by the arrest of a former coach for sexually abusing children and the indictment has shaken University of Miami head coach Al Golden.

The scandal involves former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. He was charged with sexually assaulting eight boys over a 15-year period while a coach at Penn State.

Also indicted were Penn State's athletic director and the school's vice-president for finance and business for allegedly failing to alert the police of the allegations.

But, legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno has also been brought into the case.

Paterno was allegedly told by a graduate assistant that the assistant had seen Sandusky raping a 10-year-old boy in the shower of the Lasch Football Building.

Paterno told his superiors of an incident, but he has since said he didn't know the details over what happened in the shower.

University of Miami Hurricanes head coach Al Golden played and coached for Paterno. He said he was caught off-guard by the charges.

"Shocked and disturbed," Golden told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "But other than that, I really don't know much about it or what's going on. The news that I did learn I was shocked and disheartened just like so many others."
