Report: Fins Join Discussions On DE Elvis Dumervil
HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins are rumored to be a possible landing spot for defensive end Osi Umenyiora, but now the Fins have reportedly entered the discussion surrounding former Denver Broncos star Elvis Dumervil, according to the Denver Post.
The Post's Mike Klis reported that Dumervil has contract offers from the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens but that "the Dolphins have jumped into discussions, to what extent is unclear."
Dumervil is only 5'11", but has been a pass rushing star in Denver in both the 4-3 and 3-4 defenses. Dumervil had 54 combined tackles, 11 sacks, and 6 forced fumbles in 2012. In his six-year career, Dumervil has 63.5 sacks, 16 forced fumbles, and nine fumble recoveries.
Putting Dumervil across from Miami Dolphins Pro Bowl defensive end Cameron Wake would give opposing quarterbacks nightmares. It would also allow the Fins to concentrate on the cornerback and offensive line position in the 2013 NFL Draft.
The Dolphins reportedly have more than $12 million in cap space, but will get an additional $7 million in space after June 1, according to the Palm Beach Post's Ben Volin.
