Report: Feds Investigating Biogenesis Over High School Allegations
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – As New York Yankees superstar Alex Rodriguez awaits his punishment for his role in the Biogenesis/performance enhancing drug scandal, problems could be mounting for the former head of Biogenesis, Anthony Bosch.
According to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald, federal officials are looking into whether Bosch provided controlled substances to high school athletes, as well as professional athletes. The Miami U.S. Attorney's Office will try to interview Porter Fischer, who first opened the door into Biogenesis.
The move by the USAO came after the Herald published a story in which Fischer said it wasn't just professional ballplayers receiving steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs from the Biogenesis clinic, including high school athletes.
According to the Herald, the federal criminal probe is being managed by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Patrick Sullivan and Sharad Moniania. The Feds are reportedly looking into any potential "federal illegal substance violations."
Fischer also spoke to CBS4's Jim DeFede in an interview that can seen later Thursday both on television and on CBSMiami.com.
