Report: Ex-Fin Pat White May Sign With Marlins
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The last time Pat White was seen near an athletic field in South Florida, his career with the Miami Dolphins was going up in flames. But the Miami Marlins, desperate for talent and good publicity, may take a chance on the failed football player.
White told radio station 640 Sports Thursday that he has a minor league contract offer from the Marlins and is thinking about whether to sign it, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
White was a fourth round MLB draft pick of the L.A. Angels coming out of high school, but went to West Virginia to play football instead. He was the prototype running quarterback, but his size and immaturity prevented him from making any impact with the Dolphins.
According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, if White chose to sign the contract with the Marlins, he'd report to minor league spring training to try and earn a spot on one of the minor league teams.
White has been in Mobile, Alabama this week where the annual Senior Bowl will be played in front of countless NFL scouts. White said he'd be interested in trying to make another run in the NFL if a team wanted to take a chance on him.
White played the quarterback position in a similar style to Robert Griffin, III of the Washington Redskins, but didn't have RGIII's arm strength or speed.
