Report: Dolphins RT Jonathan Martin Leaves Team To Deal With Emotional Issues
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Miami Dolphins Jonathan Martin, who was listed as doubtful for Thursday's game citing illness, has left the team to seek treatment for emotional issues, according to multiple reports.
NFL Media's Jeff Darlington, according to NFL.com, reported Wednesday that Martin is seeking help after an incident that occurred at the team's cafeteria.
Martin hasn't practiced this week and the team listed the reason as illness on the injury report. Tyson Clabo, a week after he was benched, will likely replace Martin's spot for Thursday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
CBS4's news partner the Miami Herald reports that, "there appears to be growing division within the locker room, with teammates harboring resentments." But the paper reports that a source disputes the rumors of dysfunction within the organization.
"We're sticking together through this," the source told the paper.
Last week, after an abrupt move from his position as left tackle to right tackle when the Dolphins traded him for Bryant McKinnie, the paper quotes Martin as saying, "You can go in the tank and be one of those guys who [complains] and moans and is a cancer in the locker room, or you can be a guy who goes out there and can be a professional and plays as hard as I can."
But the position move, according to a source that told the Herald, was not the reason Martin apparently "snapped" but the source believes that the player's behavior, "is probably evidence of deeper issues."
