Report: Cowher Approached To Coach Dolphins

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher has been approached by intermediaries for the Miami Dolphins about taking over the collapsing franchise, according to cbssports.com.

Cowher's name alone would be enough to bring a level of respect to the Dolphins they haven't had in the last decade.

Not surprisingly, the Dolphins have denied the report and Cowher said he won't comment on coaching rumors. Cowher has been adamant about not talking to any team unless a position is open.

If the CBS Sports report proves true, it will be the second time this year that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has flirted with hiring a new coach. Ross bungled an attempt to hire Jim Harbaugh while Tony Sparano was still the head coach.

According to the CBSSports.com report, the extreme secrecy with the pursuit of Cowher may be a direct result of the league and media wide criticism of Ross after the Harbaugh debacle.

Cowher recently said that "I am not going back into coaching just to go back into coaching. It has to be the right situation. And I don't know what the right situation consists of."

If it's about respect and winning, Cowher may look elsewhere from the Dolphins.
