Report: Conference Circulating Memo Asking About NCAA Pres. Future
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – NCAA President Mark Emmert's seat may be getting warmer in the wake of the bungled investigation into the University of Miami and other problems with the collegiate governing body.
According to CBSSports.com, an internal memo is circulating among presidents of schools in the Mountain West Conference asking whether the NCAA needs to look for a replacement for Emmert.
"Is it time for the presidents to seek new NCAA leadership or a new organization," the memo reads. "The NCAA has evidenced decisions that focus on trivial and penalize our athletes. The salaries for the NCAA leadership are excessive and an embarrassment to the Mountain West schools. Their decision making is cumberson and oblique."
The memo is specifically aimed at Fresno State University John Welty, according to CBSSports.com. Welty is a member of the Division I Board of Directors and has served in the past on the NCAA Executive Committee.
NCAA President Emmert reports to both the executive committee and board of directors. Welty participated in the creation of the league in 1999 when it broke away from the 16-team WAC. Teams in the Mountain West have been involved in major infractions seven times since 2000, according to the NCAA.
