Report: Browns Assistant Emerges As Top Fins GM Candidate

DAVIE (CBSMiami) – A former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker with a degree in sociology from Duke University appears to be emerging as a top candidate for the Miami Dolphins' general manager job.

According to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero and NFL Network's Jeff Darlington, the leading candidate for the general manager's job is Cleveland Browns assistant general manager Ray Farmer, who played for the Eagles.

Farmer's background in football is unquestioned and he was described by Browns CEO Joe Banner as "one of the up-and-coming stars in the NFL." Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said of Farmer, according to Ohio.com. "I'll be surprised if Ray's not a GM in the next few years, which will be good and bad news for us."

Farmer worked with the Browns last season after working as director of pro personnel for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2006-2012. He made it through both the Carl Peterson and Scott Pioli regimes in Kansas City.

Peterson reportedly held Farmer in very high regard while working with him in Kansas City and Peterson is helping Dolphins owner Stephen Ross find the right candidate for the job. Farmer is considered an excellent talent evaluator dating to his time as a scout in Atlanta and his work in Kansas City.

If Farmer was hired by the Dolphins, he would become the seventh African-American to become a general manager of an NFL team, according to ohio.com.
