Report: Boehner's Future Son-In-Law Once Arrested Over Marijuana
DELRAY BEACH (CBSMiami) – The conversation around Speaker of the House John Boehner's dinner table may be going up in smoke in a few weeks.
Speaker Boehner's daughter, Lindsay, is engaged to Jamaican-born Dominic Lakhan. The couple, who lives in Delray Beach, is scheduled to be married in just a few weeks.
Before that could happen, the National Enquirer dug up a little dirt on Lakhan - seems he was once pinched for pot possession. According to a Pembroke Pines police report, Lakhan was arrested in 2006 for possession of two grams of pot, which would be equal to about three joints, and an open light beer can.
The New York Daily News reported that Lakhan was also arrested in 2003 for possession of an open container of alcohol while driving.
So how does Senator Boehner feel about this dirty laundry being aired?
"The Speaker's daughters are not public figures. Accordingly, our office does not comment on their personal lives, even with respect to joyous family occasions such as their weddings," according to a statement from his office.
The timing and the purpose of the article making the rounds Thursday sent up red flags that it may be utilized for political reason.
Speaker Boehner has long been opposed to legalizing any forms of marijuana, including for medical purposes. However, Boehner himself has at times been a heavy smoker and also drinks alcohol.
CBS4's Gary Nelson was in the Delray Beach area Thursday morning and just happened to run into Lakhan while in traffic. Nelson asked Lakhan about the incident, but he declined to answer any questions. Lakhan also declined to talk about whether he was excited about the upcoming wedding.
The wedding is scheduled for May 5, according to the New York Daily News. The only question now is what will happen if someone says 'smoke if you got 'em' before or after the ceremony.
