Report: Beckham's Group Considering Six Sites For Stadium
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Negotiations are expected to continue Monday between representatives of soccer star David Beckham's investor group and Mayor Carlos Gimenez's administration to discuss possible sites in the county for a Major League Soccer venue.
Beckham's group is reportedly looking for a site with 10 to 12 acres downtown near public transportation in an effort to replicate the success other cities have had with their MLS franchise teams, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald. Oh, and a view of the bay would be nice.
So far Beckham and his investors, who formed the corporate entity Miami Beckham United, has look at approximately 30 sites and six have been reportedly mentioned as contenders.
The group, which has pledged to pay for stadium construction with mostly with private money, is seeking a state subsidy for new sports facilities. They would also like the county help them get a publicly owned site, though the mayor has said that he would expect Beckham and his investors to pay a fair price for any public property.
The top six which are under consideration require a different level of government involvement.
