Report: A-Rod Sues Major League Baseball
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez said he wasn't going to go down without a fight and late Thursday, he threw down another gauntlet with Major League Baseball by filling a lawsuit claiming MLB is part of a "witch hunt" to force him out of the game, according to the New York Times.
Rodriguez said in the complaint that an investigator paid $150,000 in cash for medical records which A-Rod's lawyers said were stolen, according to the Times. The lawsuit's specific charge was tortious interference for interfering with his existing contracts and future business relationships.
The attorney's for Rodriguez alleged baseball officials have paid Anthony Bosch, the former head of the Coral Gables-based Biogenesis anti-aging clinic, a total of $5 million in monthly installments to "buy his cooperation," the Times reported.
The suit also alleged that MLB promised to pay for Bosch's security, his legal bills and indemnify him from civil liability stemming from cases about PED usage.
The lawsuit was filed just a few days after A-Rod's attorney's began a hearing to appeal his 211 game suspension for taking performance enhancing drugs, lying about taking the drugs, and seeking to interfere in MLB's investigation.
According to the Times, the suit doesn't address whether A-Rod used any banned substances and MLB has not commented on the new lawsuit.
