Relief Agency Needs Help For Recovering Addicts
MIAMI (CBS4) -- Miami's Salvation Army Rehabilitation Center has a New Year's special request for its recovering addicts – please help them through the toughest time of the year.
New Year's Eve is perhaps the most difficult time for those recovering from substance abuse addictions, said the Center's Capt. Jay Ward.
On a night best-known for excessive drinking and partying, it's crucial to the men's success to keep them busy and upbeat.
"Recovering substance abusers face their biggest challenges of the year on December 31," Ward said in a prepared statement. "We are reaching out to the community to show these men that people care."
In order to help the people who are living in its resident center Ward is asking for donations of party and snack foods and goodies with a personal touch.
"It's a long day (for them)," Ward said. "Home made treats and donated food will be a great gift and show our men that people care."
The Miami Adult Rehabilitation Center is a residential-care center serving men with social, emotional, spiritual or substance abuse problems. The center provides housing, nutrition, counseling and social case work.
The Center's ultimate goal is to help the men re-enter society and to return to gainful employment and a normal lifestyle.
