Redrawn Fla. Senate Map To Be Submitted To High Court
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) – A redrawn Florida Senate re-districting map is being sent to the state's highest court.
A spokeswoman for Attorney General Pam Bondi said the redrawn map will be submitted to the state Supreme Court on Thursday. The justices initially approved the House map but rejected the Senate plan because it violated new Fair District standards.
Meanwhile, three groups that backed the Fair Districts standards released their own Senate plan.
They say the Republican-controlled Legislature's revised map still misses the mark. The League of Women Voters, National Council of La Raza and Common Cause say their alternative complies with Fair Districts.
Bondi's action comes days after lawmakers passed the map and before her 15-day deadline. But Democrats still accuse the Republican attorney general of partisan stalling.
The justices must approve or redraw the map before candidate qualifying begins June 4.
