Red Kettle Credit Donations Launch On Las Olas
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) --Those merry bell ringers asking for donations of holiday cheer are offering a new option at their red kettles this year --- donations by plastic.
The Salvation Army of Broward County will launch its electronic kettle feature Nov. 30 at "Christmas on Las Olas" where donors can now use their Mastercard, Visa and Discover cards instead of cash.
The credit card machines print two receipts; one for the donor and one to drop into the kettle. The Salvation Army pays credit processing fees as would any retail operation that accepts credit card payments, according to the Salvation Army.
The location of the plastic kettle will change during the holiday season while the traditional Red Kettle campaign is underway in Broward County at area retailers including Dillards, Publix, Walgreens, Winn Dixie and Wal-Mart.
