Recent UM Grad Killed In Crash
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A recent graduate of the University of Miami died in an accident early Sunday morning.
Just after 4:30 a.m., Coral Gables police received word of the crash on Bird Road at San Amaro Drive.
Police said the driver of the vehicle, who is a student at UM, was injured.
"A passenger in the same vehicle, who is also a University of Miami student, died as a result of injuries sustained in this crash," said Coral Gables police spokesman Dean Wellinghoff.
"The entire university community is heartbroken to hear of the tragic traffic accident which resulted in the death of a UM student who just celebrated his graduation on Friday," said UM Statement President Donna E. Shalala is a statement. "Dino Ghilotti, a School of Business major, had a bright future ahead of him and was about to join his family's construction business. Our condolences and thoughts are with his family and friends today."
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Police have not released the driver's name.
On mother's day, friends with flowers came by the accident scene to remember a young man about to begin a new chapter in his life. A weekend of celebration and new beginnings now turned to sorrow and loss.
A memorial service will be held for Ghilotti at 5 p.m. Monday at St. Augustine Church, located at 1400 Miller Rd., across the street from campus. It will be followed by a memorial service at the Newman Alumni Center on campus.
