Recall This? "Total Recall" Stays True To Original
MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- "Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories." Remember that line from the movie Total Recall in 1990? Well, it's back on the big screen but the revamped version of "Total Recal"l has Colin Farrell replacing Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role. Despite a change in the leading man role, much of the film stays true to the original.
Farrell plays factory worker Douglas Quaid who discovers his entire memory of his past isn't real.
"This is very much a remake for sure," said Farrell.
The movie also stars Jessica Biel as Melina, Quaid's genuine love interest and Kate Beckinsale as Quaid's wife Lori who Farrell had an easy time working with.
"Cool, easy, loved it. She has a wicked sense of humor, great woman," said Farrell of his on-screen wife.
While the film looks like its all special effects and CGI, it's really not.
Much of the action was going on around the actors. In fact, a military base in Canada became the set to create the cool hover cars.
In the film, Quaid goes on a real-life mind-trip as real memories of life as a super-spy are brought to the surface during a procedure that goes horribly wrong.
Farrell said when it came to thinking about stepping into the shoes of Arnold Schwarzenegger from the original film, he wouldn't go there.
"I hold his action stuff is such high esteem that I didn't want to think about it at all," said Farrell.
The budget for this sure to be blockbuster film was reportedly around $200 million. The 1990 original film was made for about $1 million and it made more than $260 million at the box office.
Total Recall opens in theaters Friday, August 3rd. It's rated PG-13.
