Ray Lewis May Return This Season
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Baltimore Ravens, and former UM star, middle linebacker Ray Lewis may be back on the field this season, despite suffering what was believed to be a season-ending injury last month.
According to Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports, multiple sources said Lewis is expected to return from the injury this year, possibly as early as December 16. Lewis is treating the injury with a form of platelet-rich plasma therapy, according to NFL.com.
Platelet-rich plasma therapy is similar to the treatment Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant has used in recent years on his injuries.
Lewis is set to be eligible to return to practice as early as Thursday when he would be coming off the injured reserve/designated to return list. If Lewis returns, he'll be the second Ravens star defender to shatter the injury return timetable.
Ravens outside linebacker Terrell Suggs was feared lost for the year after tearing his Achilles tendon in the offseason. Suggs returned last month from the injury and has pulled down 17 tackles and two sacks since his return to the field.
The Ravens are currently riding a four game winning streak and have the second best record in the AFC behind the Houston Texans.
