Great White Shark Hooked Off Keys Coast
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Marine scientists from the University of Miami had a run-in with a rather infamous predator off the coast of the Keys on Monday.
The RJ Dunlap Marine Conservation Program, during a routine sampling of shark population, was out on the water just east of Islamorada when they hooked a 10-11-foot great white shark.
The shark, swimming in approximately 100-feet of water, wasn't tagged nor could the team take samples since the line snapped as they tried to reel it in.
While great white sharks do migrate a considerable amount, sightings of a the shark is rare in South Florida as they prefer colder waters.
