BOYNTON BEACH (CBSMiami) – Residents of a South Florida neighborhood are being advised about the discovery of a rabid raccoon.

The rabies infected raccoon was found in the 3000 block of Churchill Drive in Boynton Beach. A resident noticed the raccoon was acting sick. The raccoon was picked up by Animal Care and Control and tested positive for rabies.

If you think you see a rabid animal, never approach it or attempt to feed it.

Rabies is a serious and fatal disease for both humans and animals.

Pet owners also need to remember to check their pets' vaccination records to ensure they are up to date.
