Prosecutors Want Zimmerman's Immunity Hearing Plans
SANFORD (AP) – Prosecutors want the attorney representing George Zimmerman, the Sanford neighborhood watch volunteer charged in the death of Trayvon Martin, to decide whether he intends to seek an immunity hearing.
Prosecutors filed a motion Wednesday asking that Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara, state whether he is waiving his client's right to such a hearing.
O'Mara has told the judge in the case he doesn't need the two weeks she had scheduled this month for such a hearing. He'd previously said he may want to wrap that hearing into Zimmerman's second-degree murder trial, set for June.
At an immunity hearing, the judge would have sole discretion to decide if Zimmerman is exempt from culpability in the fatal shooting of Martin.
