Procrastinators Pack S. Florida Stores
MIAMI (CBS4) - With the clock creeping closer to Christmas, procrastinators turned into champion shoppers, as everything from big-box retailers to drugstores saw steady business until they closed their doors, and beyond.
Toys-R-Us in Coral Gables ushered its last customers, the Gripper family. out of the store half an hour after closing.
"You can see how they were waiting at the door like hey it's time to go," said James Gripper, but he said the last minute shopping was well worth it. He got his little girl exactly what she wanted.
By the time the last shoppers left, many shelves at the toy store were almost empty.
"I was aiming for Toys-R-Us, but they're closed," said Jocelyn Colon as she walked across the street to Miracle Mile to see if any other stores were still open. There, more shoppers were filling their bags with everything for Christmas day. Some were even buying gifts for Christmas Eve and planned to give them away just a couple hours after buying them. Others bought clothes for Christmas Eve events.
The Silvas – Abel, Mabel, and Abel Jr. stocked up for a Christmas party. With just two hours to spare, they said "we've got plenty of time."
And as another round of stores closed, the line grew at Walgreens, one of the few stores still open after 8 p.m. Shoppers picked up everything from wrapping paper to ribbons, to more Christmas presents.
Fore true procrastinators, some Walgreens stores are open 24 hours, and most of the stores will be open Christmas day.
