Homestead Voters Choose Burgess

HOMESTEAD (CBS4) – Homestead residents headed to the polls Tuesday for a primary election to choose their candidates for Seat Two Council Member.

Incumbent Jon Burgess was  the winner of the seat, which represents the Keys Gate area, according to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald. The Herald reported Burgers won the election by receiving more than 50 percent of the overall vote.

Burgess was elected to a four-year term in 2007. He served as vice mayor for the first two years.

In the November general election, incumbent Mayor Steve Bateman faces a challenge from former Vice Mayor and Councilman Steve Losner. Also up for grabs: council Seat Three, representing the Villages area; and council Seat Six, representing the Oasis area. The top vote-getter elected to council will also become the vice mayor.
