President Obama Visits S. Fla. For Pair Of Fundraisers
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Commander-in-Chief made his way through South Florida for two Democratic fundraisers Tuesday.
Air Force One landed just before 5 p.m. at Miami International Airport. After a stop at a private fundraiser, the presidential motorcade headed to the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater where President Barack Obama attended a fundraising reception with 1,500 supporters.
"I had to be here," said supporter Sheri Alleyne I can never miss him. Anytime he makes it in town I make it my point to be here."
Along with supporters, there were plenty of protesters who lined the street as he entered the Miami Beach theater.
"President Obama has an executive order on his desk and he could protect 26 million American workers against discrimination," said protester Felipe Matos.
Inside the Jackie Gleason, President Obama was all business as he tried to drum up support ahead of November.
"This election is your chance to move this country forward and make sure it doesn't go backwards," said President Obama. ""We are going to fight. And we are going to struggle. And we are going to finish what we started in 2008."
Both visits was short lived; President Obama was back onboard Air Force One at around 9 p.m., with lift-off shortly thereafter. He returned to Washington, D.C.
President Obama wasn't the only star power at the event.
Latin music sensation Marc Anthony threw his support behind Mr. Obama is by performing at the Jackie Gleason reception.
The Obama campaign said Hispanic voters will be a deciding factor in this election and that is why they've created a national effort to engage Hispanic Americans through voter outreach, volunteering and voting.
