Powerball Ticket Prices Increasing In 2012
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – While the chances of hitting the Powerball remain distant, the cost of even competing in the Powerball is going up on January 15.
Tickets for the multistate game will double to $2 starting January 15, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
The Powerball is also looking to decrease the numbers to choose from which will in turn raise the odds of winning the jackpot from 1 in 192 million to 1 in 175 million.
Still, you have a much better chance of being struck by lightning (1 in 300,000) than you do hitting the Powerball jackpot.
Powerball officials also said that the starting jackpot will rise to $40 million and the amount for matching all five numbers but not the Powerball will jump from $200,000 to $1 million.
Various other payments will also increase, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
