Powerball Players Dream Of Hitting $245 Million Jackpot
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Lots of South Florida Powerball players are plunking down a few extra dollars for tickets in hopes of winning Wednesday night's $245 million jackpot.
Since being introduced into the state in January 2009, this is the fourth highest jackpot amount.
According to state lottery officials, the first Florida person hit a Powerball jackpot, for $189 million, did so in October 2009. The following July, a second Florida Lottery player hit a Powerball jackpot to win $73.8 million.
On October 6, 2010 the third Florida Lottery player won a Powerball jackpot worth $61.5 million.
The jackpot will be paid in 30 annual payments or a one-time cash payment of a reduced amount. For Wednesday's drawing, if there is a winner and they opt for the one time pay out, they will win $146.2 million.
