Powerball Jackpot Raised To $450 Million
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) - If you're buying tickets for Wednesday Powerball drawing, you may want to pick up a couple of extras.
One of the biggest Powerball jackpots in the last year has gotten even bigger.
On Tuesday, the lottery officials announced that the jackpot, which has rolled 17 times since the November 7 drawing, has been raised from $400 million to $450 million for Wednesday night's drawing.
In addition to the large jackpot prize, players have the opportunity to win lower-tier prizes from $4 up to $2 million by matching any of the non-jackpot-winning combinations. There have been more than one million Florida Powerball winners in this series of rollovers, winning more than $9 million in prizes.
"We would love for Wednesday's drawing to result in Florida's 205th Powerball millionaire," said Florida Lottery Secretary Tom Delacenserie.
Jackpot prizes are paid in either a one time lump sum or in 30 annual installments.
Jackpot prizes must be claimed within 60 days after the drawing to receive the cash option of an estimated $275.4 million.
Winners of lower amounts have 180 days from the drawing to claim their prize.
