Powerball Fever Rises Along With $400 Million Jackpot
MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- What would you do with $400 million? You could be the lucky person to find if you win the latest Powerball jackpot estimated at $400 million.
The fourth-largest jackpot in the game's 21-year history will be drawn at about 10:59 Wednesday night.
A winner of Wednesday's jackpot would have the option of choosing annual payments or a lump sum cash payout of about $224 million.
But before you try and cash in on the big cash jackpot, remember that a person's odds of winning the jackpot are an astronomical 1 in 175 million. That's how many combinations are possible with the game's five white balls and one red ball. In this case, there have been 11 drawings since August 10 without a winner.
Powerball tickets cost $2 each and are sold in Florida and 42 other states, Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Tickets are being sold through 10 p.m. Wednesday night at more than 13,000 Florida retailers.
