MIAMI — An investigation is underway after a man and woman died following an apparent murder-suicide that happened at a Northwest Miami-Dade home on Saturday morning.

Miami-Dade Police told CBS News Miami that officers were called out to a shooting at 12460 W. Randall Dr. around 8:30 a.m. When they arrived, they found the man, 40, and the woman, 39, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded but both died at the scene.

Police said that the preliminary investigation revealed that the man and woman, who were in a "domestic relationship" at one point but are now separated, got into a verbal fight that turned violent when he pulled out a gun and shot the woman before turning the gun on himself.

Police also noted that they shared three children — ages 9, 13 and 15, respectively — and they were inside the home when the shooting happened.

Police told CBS News Miami that other family members are helping the children. The youngest child was taken to the hospital as a precaution with a grandfather.

As the investigation continues, police also shared that there had been no recorded history of domestic violence. Anyone with information regarding the shooting is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).
